Ahold Delhaize previously committed to sourcing 100% cage-free eggs by 2025, and pledged to transition private-label eggs by 2022 for several of its banners. The company has failed to follow through on either of these commitments. In December 2024, it delayed its cage-free policy by an additional seven years, now aiming for implementation by 2032.
This move reflects a broader pattern of delay and backtracking on animal welfare across the company’s supply chain — including commitments related to pigs and broiler chickens.

Ahold’s website claims that it cares about animal welfare. However, undercover investigations highlight their hypocrisy.
